Theme Park Engineering and Design at Iowa State University is an organization all about education and enjoyment of the amusement industry. This includes learning how rides work and operate safely, as well as current events in the industry. Theme Park Engineering and Design also competes at a national competition designing and manufacturing an amusement ride from the ground up. This major event offers an excellent source to network and find internships in the industry. This organization is open to members of all majors.

Membership Qualifications Need to be a full-time student at Iowa State University with a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0.
Membership Restrictions All majors are encouraged to join the Theme Park Engineering and Design.
Elections/Selection Elections take place in April and the date is decided a month prior to the election month. Any dues-paying member is eligible to run for a position.
Meetings General Meetings will occur on Tuesdays from 5-6 pm in Howe 1304. Additional Project Meetings will be arranged throughout the semester.

Description of Regular Meetings/Activities

Theme Park Engineering and Design (TPED) is committed to three central missions: Celebration, Education, and Professional Development. Each meeting will be approximately 1 hour long and will consist in part of the following: Celebration TPED meetings will serve as a place for students to share their enthusiasm for the industry and activities affiliated with it. Students will have a chance to develop and share their creative works with the club. Members may participate in respectful debate. TPED will organize trips and events at nearby amusement parks at least once every year. Members attending the event will all pay an amount decided by the executive team, and will have a minimum of 30 days from receiving the dates and price of the event to decide to sign up. These trips shall be designed in consideration of the budgetary and time restrictions of many students. Events that help connect the organization to other organizations within the industry are highly encouraged (American Coaster Enthusiasts, Themed Entertainment Association, IAAPA, etc) Education Each General Meeting with consist in part of a state-of-the-art presentation of events that have occurred in the industry since the previous meeting. Meetings shall individually go more in-depth on subjects related to the industry to further educate members, as well as technological deep-dives into a specific piece of technology featuring basic formulae, basic engineering theory, and real-world examples. Professional Development Certain meetings will focus on developing members via: 1. Identification of personal skills and opportunities 2. Self-marketing through Resume and LinkedIn workshops 3. Ride Engineering Competition offers hands-on project experience and a great way to network with potential employers.
