Q: When/Where do you guys meet?
A: Wednesdays at 6:00pm in the Student Innovation Center Room 3204.
Q: Do I have to know how to program?
A: Absolutely not! There are many, many aspects to game design, and programming is just one of them. We're looking for artists, musicians, writers, 3D modelers, graphic designers, architects...anyone really! A lot of people come to our club as programmers, so if you don't know how and you want to learn, we can help you. We welcome anyone interested in video games at all. We hope to see you there!
Q: Can I join at any time?
A: Absolutely! We always help members that join late to find groups to work with. You're busy, we're busy, everyone's busy. We won't punish you because you couldn't join us at the beginning or because you found out about us later in the semester.
Q: What skills do I need to join?
A: Firstly, you don't need to know these skills before joining our club. We can help you learn them! Our club is open to all skill levels. Club members are experienced with a variety of things, so if you are looking for help, just ask around!
Q: Do I have to pay for any of this? (Dues)
A: *sigh* We hate this one, but yes we do have dues. When you pay your dues, you help us out by allowing us to buy you guys food for our social nights and prizes for game jams. We offer two packages: $15, which gets you dues for the full year and $25 which gets you dues for the year and our limited edition t-shirts.
Q: Do I have to be a student?
A: Nope! We accept all people for our meetings. However, you must be at least 18 years or older. If you have children you may bring them along, but be aware that we are a college organization and our members may act as such. If you let us know your kiddo is tagging along, we'll make sure to let our members know so they can be aware of who they might be influencing.
Q: Do I have to attend every meeting?
A: Nope. We do so much with the club that we allow you guys to pick and choose which events you'd like to attend. Do you only want to make games? Come to the Game Jams. Want to learn about the more abstract aspects of game design? Then come to the General Meetings. Choose your own ISU_GDC adventure.
Q: How do I sign up for emails?
A: Click on the "Subscribe" button at the top-right of the page. This will put you on our mailing list without having to actually go through the process of joining our club. We send out emails once a week with information about that week's events. We also email you guys when we go live for our weekly Twitch stream.
Q: Do you guys have any social media?
A: We do! You can find our social media accounts on the "Useful Links" page or within the #socials channel within our Discord. Our Discord is the the best way to find out about upcoming events and interesting articles and news stories that we find about the industry.
Q: How can I be more involved?
A: The Executive team may need help from time to time which is why there are chair positions that any GDC member can apply for. Chairs may be responsible for things such as generating workshop ideas, managing the social media outlets, advertising, etc. You can also join our Discord chat where we talk about all things games and more! You can join by clicking the "Join" button on our Discord widget located on the Home page.
