Description

The mission of IDSA at ISU is to build interdepartmental connections with students and support them educationally and professionally. IDSA provides students with educational resources, connections, professional interactions, and experiences that elevate their design skills and foster an inclusive and supportive community of future product designers. Students enrolled in the Industrial Design program at ISU are granted academic membership to the national organization of IDSA that includes benefits such as Access to the member directory to connect with members of the design industry, Discounts on conferences and awards programs, Industry Discounts on Software, Scholarship Opportunities, Quarterly issues of Innovation magazine, Educational Webinars and many more.

Description of Regular Meetings/Activities

We invite students studying, planning to study, or Interested in Industrial Design to join us for our bi-weekly meetings every other Thursday from 7:00-8:00 pm in the Armory. These meetings include activities such as Community social events, Skill development workshops, Portfolio reviews, Industry guest speakers and panels, design challenge competitions, and more!

Description of Special Events

-Student Merit Awards A collection of student works presented before professional industrial designers as judges. Serves to give students a sense of a professional critique as well as valuable feedback on their projects. -Annual Trip touring design firms Previously toured Minneapolis firms in 2022 Meant to serve as an educational as well as a relationship building experience between students. On this trip, we will tour firms, participate in team building activities, and take part in educational, design related activities.
