EGSA Graduate Student Research Seminar Series & Presentation Awards

We recognize that graduate students typically have opportunities to receive feedback on the content of their research from their advisors, committee members, and through conferences or related public presentations. The EGSA Graduate Research Student Seminar Series serves as a unique platform to enhance presentation skills specifically, ensuring we can effectively convey the importance and relevance of our research to diverse audiences. The seminar is structured to provide a balanced and engaging experience for both presenters and participants:

  • Main Presentation (20 minutes): A graduate student presenter will have a dedicated 20-minute slot to present their research. The main presentation should contain the motivation, background information or review of existing literature, methodology, initial results, and conclusions.
  • Questions and Answers Session (10 minutes): Following the main presentation, there will be a 10-minute Q&A session. This segment provides an opportunity for the audience to seek clarification and engage in a constructive dialogue with the presenter.
  • Discussant Session (10 minutes): The seminar will also feature a 10-minute discussant session, where another graduate student will offer feedback on which parts of the presentations were done well and provide insights on how to improve the presentation and interactions in the Q&A session.
  • Mingle and Network (20 minutes): The last part of the seminar is a time where you can follow up with the presenter and ask additional questions you may have, or simply enjoy the snacks and refreshments while socializing with fellow graduate students.
